Poppypaw waited anxiously by a small bush for Huntercrown. A scowl had spread on her broad face as her claws sunk deep into soft soil. "Where is he, I've been waiting here for moons." she muttered to herself. Sighing, Poppypaw decided to try and teach herself hunting. A fluffy gray squirrel was scurrying across a wide stretch of plain land. Poppypaw dropped down in what she believed was a hunting crouch, patiently waiting for the right moment. At last, the squirrel stopped by a small tree, cracking an acorn. Poppypaw pounced, but the sound had startled the animal and hurried away before Poppypaw had even gotten close to it.

A young tom exploded from the undergrowth, leaping onto Poppypaw, and pinning her down. You need to keep your senses alive if you want to be an excellent warrior. He growled playfully. Huntercrown let her get up and sat down. I was waiting there for moons! and you never scented me! But the way you came up on that squirrel was great, the acorn was just bad luck. What do you want to start with? He meowed, waiting.

"Well, I think that I'd like to start with fighting skills." Poppypaw meowed, a bit more seriously. Her gray paws sheathed, she pounced unexpectedly at Huntercrown, pinning him down. "Maybe I just got that surprise attack because you kept your guard down." She joked and she lifted her self from her mentor. She sat down and asked "Was that attack good? I've heard warriors say 'the element of surprise is a warrior's best weapon.'

Huntercrown laughed and pushed her off. That was good! And that is true. Now. When you hunt up on a bird, you have to stay totally quiet. He demonstrated, running lightly across the clearing. Now you try. He meowed, sitting down, waiting.

Poppypaw nodded. She crept quietly, using only the tip of her paws so that the whole paw was not touching the ground. Creeping quietly, yet quickly, she pounced on a sparrow, only a heartbeat late. "I waited to long, didn't I?" Poppypaw asked Huntercrown as she brought back the dead bird in her jaws. "I'll do better next time." She promised.

That was good! Hey, you got it. But you were a little slow. Try it like this. Huntercrown scented out a mouse and slunk up to it, leaping only heartbeats after he reached it. He killed it quickly and brought it back. Like that, okay? He meowed.

Poppypaw nodded and went off in search of prey. Opening her jaws wide, she scented a young rabbit hopping along. Poppypaw crouched into a hunter's position and seconds later was leaping on top of the rabbit. With one quick swipe of her claw, Poppypaw killed the rabbit and brought it over to where her sparrow and HUntercrown's mouse was. "That was better, wasn't it?" asked Poppypaw.

Much. He replied, proud of her. the tom crouched on the ground, and pounced on her. Now it's fighting lessons! He pinned her easily and quickly got up. Now, try and attack me. He ordered, waiting.

Not wasting a second, Poppypaw aimed for Huntercrown's shoulders while her eyes darted to his legs. She'd caught him by surprised, and batted her mentor with a sheathed paw. "How was that?" she asked seriously as she got up. "Pretty good for a first try?"

Huntercrown stood up, coughing out dust from his mouth. That was great, He meowed. Then he attacked her. Try again! He hissed.

Quickly, Poppypaw leaped upwards and caught Huntercrown on the shoulders, pinning him flat on the ground. She sat up, letting her mentor get on his paws. "Now it's my turn to attack." Poppypaw meowed. She dove at his legs, almost knocking him to the ground. "Caught you by surprise again, didn't I?" Poppypaw teased.

ooc;; Uhhmmm... You can't really say you knocked him down. You can say you aimed for his legs.
bic;; Huntercrown sidestepped as the attack came to his feet and swung his paws down at her. Try escaping this one! He meowed challengingly, spinning on his hind legs. He moved his paws quickly and caught her in a kitty bear hug. Ahahhahahah, He laughed, letting her go.

ooc;; Sorry, I'll change it.
bic;; Poppypaw plopped down on the ground with a thunk and began to laugh, too.Poppypaw aimed at his shoulders, but looked at his legs. She leaped into the air, hoping to hit his legs. . "You shouldn't leave your guard down."noted Poppypaw, sounding like a mentor scolding their apprentice. She gave a short laugh. "Can we work on tracking?" asked Poppypaw, her eyes brightening.

ooc;; You need to say 'Poppypaw aimed at his shoulders, but looked at his legs. She leaped into the air, hoping to hit his legs.' Otherwise, you are power-playing.
bic;; Huntercrown leaped up and swatted at her with a sheathed paw. Alright. See if you can track me. He raced off, rubbing against many different leaves to confuse his apprentice.

Poppypaw opened her jaws wide, allowing the strong scent of her mentor lead her. With a mischievous glint in her lively green eyes, she padded along a small ditch. Sniffing the ground, some particular leaves had her mentor's scent. She followed where the scent continued on. A short while afterwards, Poppypaw came across some more leaves that smelled like her mentor, but they smelled too strong, as if Huntercrown had purposely rubbed his scent on the leaves. "He did it to trick me, and it worked for a while." Poppypaw meowed to herself, a little ashamed that she hadn't caught on sooner.

He took mny twisting routes, and finally came to a stop at a tree. Let's see if she can find me now. He meowed, feeling clever for hoping to be able to trick her.

The routes twisted more and more as Poppypaw followed her mentor's scent. When she came the point where she had to choose from many different paths, she sniffed all of the paths. Most of them didn't have any scent on them. Only two had the smell of Huntercrown. Both had leaves scattered on them. Poppypaw bent down to sniff the leaves on one route. It smelled strong, and recent. The other path had the same results. "Which one, which one..." muttered Poppypaw to herself. Poppypaw crouched down to think. It was then that she noticed that on one path, the leaves looked as though not windswept. They looked as though a cat had flattened them out with their paws. Poppypaw grinned and went on the path closest to the right, hoping it was the right path.

Too late for her though, Huntercrown was down the other path. The tom slipped out of sight, and disappeared. The tom slid silently through gorse, and emerged near a pond. He sat beside it, waiting for his apprentice.

Poppypaw finally reached the end of the path. There was no scent of Huntercrown, or a sign that her mentor had ever been here. "He tricked me!" Poppypaw meowed angrily. She knew, of course, that she was to blame for her foolishness. "I should have known better. Huntercrown is not one to be underestimated." Poppypaw meowed, calmly this time. "I was mouse-brained and arrogant for believing I could outsmart him." Poppypaw murmured to herself. With her head hung low and an injured ego, Poppypaw re-traced her steps and padded down the other route. She slipped under a gorse tunnel and came across a pond. A fresh scent of her mentor was here. "Huntercrown, I know you're here." Poppypaw meowed reluctantly.
